The way I like teach is more of a retainer or overall tuition like in college. So if you students have questions on the material that they should learn in the courses then they can send me question via email, text, as a video or just a comment on any of the 300 videos and music paper sheets I’ve made for them to learn on in the Google Classroom.

When they come to class they should be ready to ask any quick questions and then we are going to work on playing, transforming, and composing using the 12 bar blues progression in different musical genres.

This class is built to help students learn to play with other musicians. I believe that every student that I teach should play with other people. I have seen how the competition and spark in them comes out as well as their compassion when they help new people out. They will make new friends and understand musical cues better. They will be able to share and accelerate their progress with friends. This is good preparation for one of our band classes or if a student plans on joining jazz or marching band in school.

I believe what made me the player I am today isn’t just what I’ve learned its because I jammed with my teacher, master musician and guitarist, for 7 years. Learning the language of music, phrasing, composition, improvisation, and developing greater intuition, freedom, and mindfulness. As well as stealing all the cool stuff he played and then asking how its done!

Talent is earned

“The belief that one’s abilities are limited by one’s genetically prescribed characteristics....manifests itself in all sorts of ‘I can’t’ or ‘I’m not’ statements,” Ericsson and Pool write. The key to extraordinary performance, they argue, is “thousands and thousands of hours of hard, focused work.”

So as a teacher I try to find what you would play for thousands of hours that takes your mind off of stresses, fears, so you can be the awesome musician you want to be.

This is a hybrid class. I believe that like any successful athlete or musician 80-90% of the practice takes place off of the field and stage. Since this is where success happens I want to be there with you every step of the way

So students should be practicing or playing the guitar 30 minutes minimum a day to really become something special. Science will show that “natural talent” doesn’t go as far as consistent play and guided practice.

Often times students have questions on what we go over in lessons during the week. At most music schools you’re not allowed to have outside help from a teacher or they don’t want outside communication.
