Immortal by Star Slayer
“When I wrote Immortal I was tired of other people telling me I wasn't worth anything. I was tired of people acting like they had it all figured out when I could clearly see that their idea of what was right made no sense. Immortal is an anthem for anyone who really wanted to say 'fuck you' to someone but couldn't.” - Brian, singer for Star Slayer.
I chose this song because I, an artist, always find the people who I know are going to hate on my vision, then proceed to try to explain it to them. It could be due to a pattern of recreating trauma that comes from being told being an artist is for “special” and “lucky” people. Why can’t I be special and lucky too? It’s important to know ourselves so we can be consistent, confident, and content in what I do. I only get the moment, so I live being myself or die surviving to others’ gavels.
The chorus of this song lifts my spirit in a way that makes me wish the chorus would last forever. Star Slayer has the guitar and bass riffs of a galactic battle against the naysayers and drums to motivate you to keep on going in full force.
